As  a long time JSA member it has been a very valuable experience attending  the meetings that the JSA committee has put together. The meetings are a  valuable resource of information that help keep me current on the  regulations and good practices shared by others. The meetings are also a  great way to meet other EHS professionals from other industries. We  have shared ideas and practices that are very helpful with advancing the  Safety practices at our facilities. I also enjoy attending the meetings  at different locations to see how they incorporate safety at the  locations. I would recommend attending these meetings to anyone who is  responsible for the EHS program at their location.

In my 13-year career as a Workers’ Compensation  Claims Coordinator, I have been to many meetings of the Joplin Safety  Alliance. It is very informative and nice to meet others in my chosen  field.

I would highly recommend joining the  Alliance as both you and they will benefit from one another’s  experiences and situations. It is always interesting to see how others  handle difficult situations.

Early  in my career I always found the JSA meetings informative, and they  served as a great networking opportunity for Joplin Area EHS and HR  Managers.

Later while working for the Safety  Council of the Ozarks I had the opportunity to chair the Joplin,  Springfield, and Monett groups.  The Joplin group always seemed to be  the most engaged and generally had the best attendance. This made me  appreciate the interaction I had always had with the Joplin group before  even more.  The EHS function in any work environment is very complex  position.  We tend to be Jack of All Trades types any by nature have to  be cross functional.  Our positions overlap significantly with Human  Resources, Engineering, Maintenance, Insurance, Regulatory Bodies,  Legal, Medical/EMS, Emergency Management, Law Enforcement and more.  EHS  professionals know it is incredibly difficult to be engaged with that  many professional disciplines.   But with a group like the Safety  Alliance we are able to come together and support each other it is a  space where all these different aspects of the EHS field can be  represented.  Just this past year the alliance had speakers for Incident  investigation, Human Trafficking, and the legal HR Ramifications of  Drug Legislation.  What a wide range of topics!  But these are the  things that an EHS professional must be engaged in to be successful and  without the Joplin Safety Alliance, who in our area would be putting  together this type information?  It is just a fantastic resource that  should not be taken for granted.

As an RN Case Manager for Workers’ Compensation  for 18+ years, I learned of and have been a member of Joplin Safety  Alliance for nearly 5 years.

I have found the meetings to be a wealth of information and have enjoyed hearing how other members handle safety issues.

It is an interesting group sharing different opinions, knowledge, and expertise.
